A time for giving, sharing & thanksgiving

By Flat Living on December 1, 2016 Customer Service & Marketing

Quite where a year has gone I really have no idea, but it’s that time of year again to share glad tidings and good will to all men… and women – and your followers actually!

Making a plan as you start to close down for the festive season is most probably the best way to start. Think about all of your activity across this year and over the next few days think about how you’ll carry forward your most successful activities into the new year. I call it my twelve days of Christmas countdown…

Don’t panic, you don’t actually need to work on your plans for a full twelve days but dedicating some time each day will really help and here’s your starter – for 12!

    The Thanks Giving

Because it’s that time of year have a look to see who’s interacted with you recently and see if you’ve either liked, re-tweeted or responded with words of thanks for their engagement.

    Your followers

Now not in a religious context but have you recently checked who’s actually following you? Sometimes you’ll find you may not be following back some of your supporters and if that’s so you could be missing out on some important news and conversation.

    The ones you follow

How often have you reviewed who you’re following? Are they still relevant to you and your focus or business needs? Are they actually still active? You’ll be surprised how many people start accounts with all good intentions and then just seem to lose their momentum. Following inactive accounts is pointless so check through and make your account work for you.

    Lists

I know you’ve probably got lists up to your ears at this time of year with gifts to buy, what to take to work when. Secret Santa. Food shopping… but review and revise your twitter lists too and make sure you’ve got the right group of people grouped together!

    Profile Picture

Festive or not is it time for a change? A fresh start ready for the new year? Looking now gives you time to plan in a change and helps to keep your profile fresh and interesting. Let’s face it madonna has been reinventing herself for years and that seems to work so now it’s your turn!

    Header

Equally when was the last time you changed your header? (That’s the background picture at the top of your account) Or do you have one at all? Keeping this fresh is a great idea.  I’ve got into the habit of changing mine monthly, normally to coincide with these articles. – which reminds me I need to think of what to add for this edition! That’s a ‘to do’ for me!

    Hashtags

It was the feature in my last edition and how many of you decided to create your own? If you did that’s great. If you didn’t there’s still time to make one for your use next year. Or pick a few that you like and make a note to either follow them or use them in your tweets regularly. It makes it easy for people to follow your updates and you to follow others too.

    Twitter Hours

I know from speaking with many of you that you engage in #LeaseholdHour and that’s fantastic, but there are others too so if these’s a particular topic of benefit to your business or that you’re particularly interested in do a quick search and see if there’s an ‘hour’ for it that you may wish to join.

    Your bio

How up to date is your description of your account? Has your role changed? Is something new? Does your company have a new focus or promotion? Keeping this as up to date as possible is crucial as quite simply people need to know what it is you do or are online for.

    The story

No not the Christmas one but if you’ve got an Instagram account you’ll know it’s not just what picture you post now it’s all about the story so if you haven’t made one yet why not try over the holidays when you have a bit more time to play! Stories are fun and you can start to build up quite a few quite quickly. It helps to keep good engagement. The more creative the better. Think ‘mini soap opera’

    Go Live?

There’s ads all over Youtube and if you haven’t gone live on Facebook yet maybe Christmas is the time to start trying it. Your live video can literally be anything and it doesn’t matter what length it is either. Live videos encourage interaction during the broadcast so particularly useful if your using it to launch a new product or to cover an event. Free and easy. Just remember to hold your device in the landscape position – makes for much better videos!

    A gift to yourself!

Apps!!! If this list has exhausted you remember these days there’s an app for almost everything from follow / unfollow / like / retweet / notify… so search your App Store and let the elves do the hard work for you!

So there’s my list. I hope it proves useful and I hope even more that what ever you’re doing across the festive period you have some time to rest. If you’re working remember social media helps speed up the process and gives time for just another mince-pie. That’s a fact. 😉

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to One & All and let’s hope my plan helps you to #BeMoreSocial in 2017!

James is now Marketing and PR Manager for Countrywide’s Estate and Asset Management and Property Auction divisions.

The #BeMoreSocial column was created for Flat Living and its goal is to drive more effective communication within the property management industry.

If you have a customer service experience using any form of marketing or social media that you’d like to share then tweet @JamesBiley and @FlatLivingLoves using the #BeMoreSocial.

We’d love to feature your examples in a future edition.
