HERALDING the 50th anniversary of the Leasehold Reform Act 1967, when homeowners of leasehold houses were given the right to purchase their freehold or extend their lease, the Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) is hosting a specialist conference to inform and engage industry professionals at this important time for homeownership. The LEASE Annual Conference 2017 is to be held at County Hall near Westminster Bridge, on Wednesday 1st February and is expected to attract hundreds of industry professionals from a range of specialist fields
The industry leading conference, now in its 15th year, will provide a mixture of plenary sessions providing key updates from across the leasehold sector as well as profession-focused track sessions, of specific interest to a range of professions including Managing Agents, Housing Associations, Developers, Solicitors, Valuers and all those interested in the sector.
The use of leasehold in housing is becoming more widespread. It is reported that 95% of new properties sold in London last year were classified as leasehold. Although typically associated with new build flats, registrations of detached leasehold houses have also increased considerably.
Tony Essien CEO of LEASE says: “As we mark 50 years of the right for leaseholders of houses to buy their freehold or extend their lease, a range of industry experts will come together to discuss leasehold today and what’s to come. As the outlook is for more leasehold property, including through shared ownership, leasehold has never been more pertinent.”
The LEASE Annual Conference 2017 will open up discussions on a range of subjects including the government’s view of Leasehold, developments in leasehold management, valuation principles and associated law, the regulation of leasehold and the very latest in Case Law updates. Speakers include Barristers Phillip Rainey QC (Tanfield Chambers) and Anthony Radevsky (Falcon Chambers.); Sir Peter Bottomley MP, Katrine Sporle (Property Ombudsman), Peter Beckett (Beckett and Kay) and Kevin Dunleavy (Notting Hill Housing Group.)
