The team at Ardent Lift Consultancy wanted to share a positive story amidst the onslaught of pandemic doom and gloom.
ARDENT Lift Consultancy were requested to carry out a survey of an underperforming lift in a tall residential building last year. It soon became apparent that the property was “under lifted” with only one small unit serving 14 floors, a poor money saving decision made by the Developer during construction back in 2004.
Another factor impacting on the lift service was the particular lift chosen was of a value engineered design and was exhibiting premature and accelerated wear. Subsequently the lift had been working beyond its design capabilities. Where we would usually recommend the lift to be refurbished, in this instance it was not the right route to take and a replacement was specified, tendered and awarded to the right contractor.

However, the programmed works involved the lift being out of service for approximately 14 weeks, an inconvenience for the residents now heightened by that cost cutting decision to install only one lift.
The project commenced in February and was progressing nicely when the Covid-19 pandemic struck taking everyone by surprise. As all of us around the country tried to put things in place both at home and at work to mitigate the situation, the residents of this property looked to be without lift service for the foreseeable future.
Nevertheless, after careful risk assessment, the installation team were able to come up with a safe plan of action to continue the installation whilst adhering to Governmental instructions and maintaining social distancing.
The contractor’s decision to use staff located within a 3-4-mile radius has enabled the team to cycle to the property without the need of public transport, minimising risks from the current Covid 19 virus.
With such a committed and motivated team, we have been able to maintain the schedule of work and remain on track for completion despite one of the biggest hurdles any of us have had to endure.
Residents will soon have lift service restored, thanks to all the efforts the installation team are putting in.
