Electric Vehicle Charging

With 1 in 5 adults thinking about buying an electric vehicle in the next three years, now is the time to make sure your blocks are prepared says Future Groups MD, Jamie Willsdon.
Earlier this year Future Group announced the launch of Future Fuel, their new division responsible for the installation of electric vehicle charging points.

With their knowledge and understanding from working within the residential block management sector, Future Fuel have a wealth of experience to provide customised solutions for the individual requirements of each block of flats.

In partnership with Wallbox, an established Spanish company, Future Fuel have now started working with property managers across the country to find the best solution for car parks at flats and apartments.

We all know that property management can be a complicated area, and the installation of vehicle charging points is different from installing at a workplace car park or at someone’s home, as the terms of the lease need be considered as well as factors such as how many charging points are needed now and in the future.

Following the launch of Future Fuel, Group MD Jamie Willsdon said “Future Group are well established within the market place and we felt that the time was right for us to use our experience to develop other areas that property managers were asking our advice about. Future Fuel is the perfectly placed to ensure that property managers are equipping their blocks with technology that is being requested and to ensure that they have the knowledge now and in the future.”

Jamie continued “We understand that each block is different and will have different requirements and lease terms, Future Group have partnered with PM Legal to provide a complete solution for the whole process. This means that property managers will be able utilise the legal experience available from PM Legal who have an overall view of the process.”

Partner at PM Legal Cassandra Zanelli said “At PM Legal we are delighted to be working with Future Fuel on this exciting new project to deliver technology that is new and innovative to our industry. Being involved in this from its initial concept with Future Fuel allows us to have a detailed understanding of the process and ensure that we can advise our clients on a range of solutions to meet their needs.”

By 2025 at least 14% of all vehicles will be electric

The team at Future Fuel acknowledge that there is lots to learn with this new service and they are actively working with property managers across the country looking at the most appropriate solution for each block. Currently some block managers are installing electric vehicle charging points for a number of vehicles while others are installing just one for the resident that requested it. These bespoke solutions along with their understanding of the market place allow Future Fuel to work with property managers and find the right fit for each block.

With the governments mission for all new cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040, Future Fuel are well positioned as approved OLEV suppliers and installers to be able to apply for government grants towards installations. To help private plug-in vehicle owners offset some of the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of a dedicated domestic recharging unit, the government offers the Electric Vehicle Home-charge Scheme (EVHS). Customers who are the registered keeper, lessee or have primary user of an eligible electric vehicle can receive up to 75% (capped at £500) off the total capital costs of the charge-point and associated installation costs.

If you would like to start the conversation and find out how you can future proof the blocks that you manage for electric vehicles, Future Group are attending a number of events this year and would be delighted to speak to property managers with any questions they may have at these events.
